11. How long does my own natural hair have to be to use kinky hair extensions?

To wear kinky hair extensions your natural hair needs to be as long as your pinky finger or longer, if you are wearing your own natural hair out. This way there is enough hair for the clips to latch on too. If you have really short kinky hair, but your hair can be braided in cornrows, you can still wear kinky hair extensions and attach the clip-ins to your cornrows.

12. Will my curly hair extensions blend well if my natural hair is really short?

You can blend curly hair extensions with short hair, but you need to have at least two sets of curly hair extensions to do this. In order to make your shorter hair unnoticeable, your leave out at the top has to be minimal and twisted with the clip-in extensions.

13. Can I use kinky hair extensions as a protective style for my natural hair?

Yes you can. Quite a few of our customers use our kinky clip-in extensions as a protective style for their natural hair. You can braid your own natural hair away in cornrows or loose braids and attach your kinky clip-in extensions on top of them. At the top, you leave a small part of your natural hair out as your leave out, so that it naturally falls over your kinky curly clip-ins.

14. What are the best clip-in hair extensions for type 3 hair?

Type 3 curly hair can range from very loose spirally curls to tight springy coils. They have some luster and can be susceptible to frizz. HeyCurls clip-in extensions are a great match for type 3b curls and type 3c curls. Depending on the styling method of your curly clip-in extensions, the curls will have a looser 3b curl pattern or a tighter 3c curl texture.

Type 4 kinky hair is naturally very dry and has a cottony texture. The strands can be very airy and fine or coarse and wiry. They are densely packed together and often have a z-shape. Yes you can! HeyCurls clip-in extensions are made from 100% human hair. Therefore, your natural hair clips can be straightened and curled. You do have to remember that you can damage the hair if you use excessive heat. We recommend using a heat protectant at all times and avoiding excessive use of straightening tools.

23. What products should I use on my curly hair extensions?

We recommend using products that you would also use on your natural hair. You don’t need to wash and style your curly hair extensions often, so you won’t break the bank using some of your most loved hair styling products.

24. How do I comb my kinky clip-in extensions?

Always comb your kinky clip-in extensions from root to bottom with a wide tooth comb or with your fingers. We recommend only combing the clip-ins on wash day, when they are coated with conditioner to untangle them. There is no need to comb them in between wears.

25. How do I wash my natural hair extensions?

The best way to wash your natural hair extensions is in a sink filled with water. Put a little bit of sulfate-free shampoo in the sink and submerge your clip-in extensions in the water. Wash them gently by stroking them from root to bottom. Do not tangle them up with your hands. Rinse your natural hair clip-in extensions and coat them with a very moisturizing conditioner or deep conditioner. Let the clip-ins soak up the conditioner for about 10-15 minutes and start gently finger detangling from bottom to top, until your clip-in extensions are completely untangled. Finally, lay each piece to air dry on top of a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt on a flat surface. Once they are dry, style as usual.

26. Can I sleep with my natural hair clip-in extensions?

We do not recommend it. Other than it being very uncomfortable, the clip-in extensions can start to tangle with your own natural hair. It is very easy to clip-in your natural hair clip-in extensions in the morning, so just take them out before you go to bed ;)

27. Can I swim with my kinky hair extensions?

No, we do not recommend swimming with your kinky hair extensions. Chlorine from swimming pools and salt from ocean water is going to result in extreme tangling of the clip-ins and could be damaging if they tangle with your own natural hair. If you like to wear your kinky curly clips in the water, make sure you tie your hair up to avoid wetting them.

Synthetic hair is made out of fibre and lacks the softness and authentic texture of human hair. Synthetic hair is processed with many harmful chemicals that can cause skin irritation and are harmful to our planet. The durability of synthetic hair is only a few weeks, which makes them not a sustainable option.
